Strategic setting: Newly founded MANN+HUMMEL Thailand is building a production site for air management solutions of vehicle engines and a distribution centre for filter elements.

Ludwigsburg/Bangkok, 19th September, 2012 – The German-based filtration specialist MANN+HUMMEL founded a 100% subsidiary in Thailand to support customer demand for local production and to accelerate the group’s automotive and water business in the region. The MANN AND HUMMEL (Thailand) LTD. offices are located in the capital and the company is now installing a nearly 4,000 square metre production site including a distribution centre in the Rayong Area. Rayong is about 2 hours driving south east of Bangkok and houses a fast growing international automotive cluster. The industrial zone is presumed to be flood-safe.

“Upon completion of this new facility in Thailand we will have our first production site in the ASEAN free trade area. This is an important step for us to serve our Asian customers better and faster, especially those from Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia,” explains Managing Director Claude Mathieu. Thailand and Japan concluded a free trade agreement in 2007. China and the ASEAN-6 countries finalized the first step of exemption from duty. “MANN+HUMMEL Thailand will benefit from this favourable economic environment and the fact that major Asian vehicle manufacturers, first of all Japanese, are producing vehicles in Thailand with the objective to substantially increase their output in the coming years. They count on us as their reliable partner in Thailand as in other parts of the world – and here we are!” says Mathieu. “Now it is my task to build up a new plant, to integrate it into the world-wide MANN+HUMMEL production network, to drive localization and above all, to satisfy our customers.” Production at the new MANN+HUMMEL facility is geared primarily towards the group’s global strategic OEM customers who have set up a local footprint in Thailand. MANN+HUMMEL Thailand will produce air cleaner systems and intake manifolds for passenger cars and trucks.

According to automotive analyst IHS, vehicle production in Thailand is expected to grow by nearly 30% from 2012 to 2018 and should amount to more than 2.5 million units. MANN+HUMMEL’s new production site in the ASEAN region represents a major step to fulfill the filtration specialist’s growth strategy. It is MANN+HUMMEL’s goal to double sales in the truck business and to increase the Asian share of the Group sales from 17% in 2011 to 25% by 2018. By then group sales are expected to realise at least 3.4 billion Euros.
