MANN+HUMMEL Speyer celebrates an international star
The Europiclon air cleaner – a success story On the 12th June the three millionth Europiclon rolled off the production line at MANN+HUMMEL in Speyer. This two-stage air cleaner for construction and agricultural machines has made international history for roughly 20 years: it was the first air cleaner series in plastic, the first air cleaner to receive a design award and the first air cleaner in the Industrial Filters Business Unit to receive a patent.
Speyer – 12th June, 2013 – "The Europiclon opened up the international market for construction and agricultural machines for us", explains Steffen Schneider, Group Vice President & General Manager for Industrial Business in Speyer and member of the extended board of management at the MANN+HUMMEL group regarding the huge significance of the first two-stage air cleaner in plastic. No other industrial filter product is more closely linked to the positive development of the business and the plant. The three millionth Europiclon was assembled on 12th June by Lieselotte Sieber. Employed at MANN+HUMMEL for 31 years, she gave her support at the start and has worked for many years in the production. This was reason enough for a small celebration at the Speyer location recently involving the employees and a number of external guests.
After 20 years demand for the Europiclon remains strong. Numerous customers in Europe, Asia and America work with this robust intake air cleaner for machines and equipment which provides protection in conditions with medium to heavy dust levels, i.e. construction and agricultural machines and mobile compressors. The Europiclon is extremely flexible with nine sizes and an extensive range of accessories allowing an endless amount of variations. Thanks to this flexibility it can be used in many varied machines. "Even today, in terms of engineering and economy, the Europiclon remains a high performance filter solution for many customers", sums up Markus Scheerle, plant manager MANN+HUMMEL in Speyer.
"Today plastic air cleaners have become standard, whereas 20 years ago it was a première for the Speyer plant", adds Ingo Sommer, production manager for air cleaners. Ingo Sommer has worked as a filtration specialist for 35 years in Speyer. He was a member of the development project for the new product and together with Dr. Volker Greif (testing manager) and Manfred Winter (air cleaner design manager) was part of a group which pioneered this successful product. Today, the members of that group remain active at MANN+HUMMEL.
The Europiclon was the first air cleaner which MANN+HUMMEL designed in co-operation with an industrial designer. The filter was presented to the public in 1993 at the Hanover industrial trade fair. In the same year, the Europiclon was also the first filter to be awarded a design prize by the iF Forum Design in Hanover.
And a further première: it was the first air cleaner to be patented in the Industrial Filters Business Unit. Today, around the world in the MANN+HUMMEL group approx. 800 engineers and R&D personnel are working on new, innovative products. MANN+HUMMEL invests substantially in this R&D work. Therefore it is only right that the company protects inventions with patents and if necessary is prepared to enforce its patents in court.
