MANN+HUMMEL Singapore expands business platform

MANN+HUMMEL Water Business: new facilities

  • Double the manufacturing capacity for ultrafiltration cartridges
  • New enlarged R&D centre with own testing and analysing capabilities
  • Customers will benefit from a wider product range and increased service with shorter reaction times

Ludwigsburg/Singapore, 29th June 2012 – MANN+HUMMEL Singapore, worldwide headquarters of the water business division of the German-based filtration specialist, is increasing production substantially and expanding its R&D facilities. Today, the company opens a new well-equipped R&D centre with German technology and a new production line for ultrafiltration cartridges. As a first step, the production capacity will be doubled. This will enable manufacturing to expand and provide sufficient capacity for a new range of products. The new facilities are necessary to meet the requirements of the global demand for filtration products made by MANN+HUMMEL. At present, 100 water filtration specialists are employed at the Singapore company to serve customers from all over the world. The team is expected to grow by 30% in 2012.

"Perfect parts and perfect service – that’s the global commitment to all MANN+HUMMEL customers worldwide" says Mr. Ulrich Winter, Managing Director of MANN+HUMMEL Singapore. "Our whole team fully supports this commitment. I am very proud of the highly qualified and motivated team. We are all very proud of the new facilities opened today. They will enable us to increase our customer service and competitiveness. We wish to give our thanks to all employees, government agencies and business partners who have supported us."

With MANN+HUMMEL Singapore, customers can now benefit from the company's own analysing capabilities for all main water and membrane-relevant water components such as organic and inorganic molecules, salt, particles etc. with highly sophisticated equipment. Customers also benefit from MANN+HUMMEL's 70 years of filtration experience in the automotive business with the company transfer of German engineering such as statistical methods and focus on quality control using approved design and simulation tools. The strongly systematic approach and available work processes will further improve quality, modularity and flexibility. Together with access to the complete MANN+HUMMEL technical and sales network, the Singapore team will better meet market needs.

Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), Mr. Yeoh Keat Chuan said: "We are delighted that MANN+HUMMEL, a world leader in the production of industrial and automotive filters, has decided to significantly strengthen its water-related operations in Singapore. This latest investment marks a new milestone in the fast growing partnership between MANN+HUMMEL and Singapore. The establishment of MANN+HUMMEL’s Global Water Headquarters validates Singapore as an ideal home base in Asia where global companies can orchestrate their Asian business strategies and develop future-ready solutions."

Water business is a strategic activity of the MANN+HUMMEL group. The company develops and manufactures systems for the reuse, recycling and conserving water. They are based on proven technologies such as reverse osmosis, membrane bio-reaction and ultrafiltration. Depending on the needs of the customer, the systems are highly standardised, modular and adaptive with no need for significant further engineering at the customer site. The modular structure, however, does allow modifications to meet the specific needs of customers. These advantages help to save time and reduce costs.

"Today, Singapore is regarded as a Global Hydrohub, home to about 100 water companies and 25 water R&D centres. The opening of MANN+HUMMEL’s new facility in Singapore which houses the company’s global headquarters for the water business unit, membrane manufacturing plant as well as the global R&D water centre, is a major boost to our water industry. Their expanded production capacity and enlarged R&D centre is a welcomed value-add to Singapore’s thriving water eco-system," said Mr. Chew Men Leong, Executive Director of Environment and Water Industry Programme Office and Chief Executive Officer of PUB.

It is MANN+HUMMEL Singapore’s key business function to support regional and global activities including optimisation of system designs. In Brazil, MANN+HUMMEL has taken over the system supplier Fluid Brasil. Fluid Brasil is specialised in reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration solutions used in the treatment of water and wastewater

The filtration market has a worldwide volume of around 40 billion euros, of which water treatment amounts to almost a quarter, with this showing a strong upward trend. MANN+HUMMEL plans to harness that potential and create dynamic business growth. The company plans to increase its sales to at least 3.4 billion euros (2011: approx. 2.5 billion euros) by 2018.
