Driving force for further growth

60 years of MANN+HUMMEL industrial filtration in Speyer

MANN+HUMMEL Speyer, worldwide headquarters of the division for industrial filtration, celebrates its 60th anniversary with growth above the market average for the last twenty years. The company is one of the largest industrial employers in the region. The business unit has been given the task of opening up new business fields for the MANN+HUMMEL group and pressing ahead with the group's diversification activities.

Ludwigsburg/Speyer, 22nd June 2012 – 60 years ago a dozen motivated men and women in a former shoe factory set up shop in Speyer, Germany. Today, Speyer is the international hub for MANN+HUMMEL industrial filtration with over 620 core employees. The company belongs to the MANN+HUMMEL group and is specialised in the development and production of compact filtration solutions for numerous industrial fields. Customers include well-known machine manufacturers from all over the world as well as the distribution of products for the aftermarket. The location of Speyer plays a key role in MANN+HUMMEL's diversification and expansion strategy. In future, the location will validate new application areas for filtration solutions and assess and prepare possible market launches in parallel to the water filtration division of MANN+HUMMEL. The water filtration division was established in Speyer and today operates from Singapore.

"The fact that Speyer has been assigned this important strategic task is mark of confidence in the location and a confirmation of our performance," explains Volker Plücker, Member of the Extended Board Group Vice President & General Manager Industrial Business. "We are celebrating 60 years of successful work in Speyer and from Speyer. We are also celebrating future prospects and opportunities. A warm thank-you to all employees and our business partners who have given us wonderful support. We are looking forward to new challenges which we will meet together."

The industrial filters business unit plans to intensify the exploitation of business opportunities in its core business area and has recently won the Chinese group SANY as a new key account. SANY is one of the largest construction machine manufacturers in the world. The group has chosen MANN+HUMMEL to be its strategic partner in the implementation of its globalisation strategy. Up to 2018 turnover in the mid-double-digit million range is planned. The project will be managed from Speyer.

The markets are changing. There is a huge need for industries in the new industrial emerging markets in eastern Europe, Asia  and South America to catch up. In addition, in the established industrial countries, new statutory regulations and ever higher quality requirements are resulting in additional filtration. MANN+HUMMEL Speyer is the market leader for filtration solutions for compressors and EDM filters. MANN+HUMMEL EDM filters, for example, are used in the machines which produce the tools for the edge design on euro and eurocent coins.

Growth in the industrial core business and new business fields will enable the non-automotive business to grow by 2018 up to approx. 1,1 billion euros and will therefore account for around a third of the group's planned turnover of at least 3.4 billion euros.
