MANN-FILTER expands portfolio with plant-based raw material
The shift toward more sustainable production continues – additional air and oil filters with lignin-based media for millions of vehicles.
Ludwigsburg, May 12, 2026 – MANN-FILTER is consistently pursuing its sustainability strategy and expanding its existing portfolio of filters with lignin-based media in the aftermarket. Following the successful introduction of the first CO₂-reduced filters last year, additional air and oil filters are now available as part of the transition to series production. Workshops and trading partners can benefit from renewable, plant-based material in proven original equipment quality.
Extended coverage in the independent aftermarket
As a result of the product expansion, the more sustainable MANN-FILTER air filters are available for around 120 million passenger cars and vans in the European IAM. Oil filters treated with lignin are used in approximately 35 million vehicles across Europe. In addition, both filter solutions are available worldwide for millions of other vehicles. The number of available products has more than doubled as a result of the expansion.
The transition to the new filter types begins in May. As usual, the products are clearly marked with a leaf symbol on the packaging. These new products also embody the same principle: Greater sustainability without sacrificing functionality – and without compromising on performance, quality, or reliability.
Ying Luo, Director of Sustainability and Information Technologies at NEXUS, confirms that this concept also impresses on the customer side: "For us, the key factor was that the lignin-based filters are not only more sustainable, but also offer the same performance and original equipment quality in daily use at the same price. We were particularly impressed by the seamless integration with no changes to part numbers or logistics – a clear advantage for our partners. The fact that MANN-FILTER is now systematically expanding its product range to include additional types of air and oil filters sends a strong signal to us and represents an important step toward establishing more sustainable solutions on a broad scale in the market." This approach was also taken up at the recent NEXUS Climate Day, where the lignin-impregnated filters were presented as a practical and scalable example of more environmentally friendly product solutions in the aftermarket.

Production in the world’s largest filter plant
All of the more resource-efficient MANN-FILTER products are manufactured at the Marklkofen filter plant in Germany, the world’s largest filter plant. The latest expansion of the air and oil filter portfolio is also produced here. State-of-the-art manufacturing technologies and strict quality controls ensure that each filter delivers the proven premium performance.
The sustainability journey continues
With the expansion of its portfolio, MANN-FILTER is making a clear statement. Further innovations to improve the ecological footprint of selected series products will be presented at Automechanika in Frankfurt this year.
